Youth Development Basics Workshop

This 4-hour workshop introduces four main concepts from the research-based  positive youth development approach: Developmental Youth Outcomes, Services/Opportunities/Supports, Cultural Assumptions and Adultism, and Youth Participation/Youth Voice. This dynamic workshop is ideal for busy front line youth workers/volunteers, program managers and decision-makers in youth serving organizations. Through group discussion, instruction, activities and handouts, participants understand the basics of a positive youth development approach, and how implementation of the approach benefits youth, the adults who work with them and the programs/organizations as well.

Youth Development Basics PLUS

“Basics” PLUS is a more comprehensive training for youth workers. The 8 hours of training may be offered in one, two or four sessions. The training is highly interactive, with in-depth training, reflection and networking related to understanding and utilizing a positive youth development approach in a wide variety of settings.  In addition to understanding the main concepts and essential elements of effective youth development settings, participants will explore core competencies of effective youth workers, adolescent development (including brain development and identity development), and strategies for implementation.   Training is enriched with participants from many diverse organizations and fields, e.g. probation, foster care, schools, law enforcement, Boys & Girls Club, 4-H or church youth group leader, school age child care or residential/therapeutic facility staff.

Youth Work Café

During the 2-hour evening café, enjoy refreshments, network, discuss issues, participate in skill building activities and take home resources.  For 2012, the Café is scheduled for 6:00-8:00pm on  May 15, July 17, September 18 and November 20.  Call for training topics or to pre-register, so that we may have adequate supplies of refreshments and handouts ready!
